Genasys ACOUSTICS Extending Galileo EWSS Public Warning Capabilities

As natural and man-made disasters continue to proliferate in frequency and intensity, Genasys Inc. is partnering with other members of the consortium for the EUSPA Project AWARE, that aims at enhancing public warning and safety in the European Union. Heatwaves, wildfires, and severe flooding have caused thousands of deaths and billions of euros in economic damage in the EU over the past 30 years. In 2024, devastating floods impacted Austria, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and most recently, Spain.

Project AWARE consortium members are working to provide civil protection authorities with audio, video, and text alert channels to reach individuals who may not have access to mobile devices, or during telecommunications service disruptions. Integrating the reception and processing of Galileo EWSS transmissions into fixed devices including display panels, indoor warning systems, and Genasys outdoor ACOUSTICS devices will reinforce and extend Galileo EWSS public warnings beyond smartphones.

For more than 40 years, Genasys has innovated acoustic devices, including satellite-connected speaker systems that broadcast audible voice messages with exceptional clarity. Most outdoor public warning systems are sirens with limited, if any, audible voice broadcast capability. Optimized with Genasys’ advanced driver and waveguide technology, ACOUSTICS systems feature the mass notification industry’s highest Speech Transmission Index – 0.95. With large directional and omni-directional broadcast coverage areas, and an array of options – including solar power, battery backup , and satellite connectivity -, ACOUSTICS systems continue to operate when electrical power and cellular infrastructure are damaged or fail.

Genasys command-and-control software provides ACOUSTICS operators with the capability of sending live or recorded voice alerts and notifications from emergency operation centers as well as from authorized users’ computers or smartphones. ACOUSTICS installations are networked to enable civil protection authorities to broadcast warnings from a single installation, multiple systems or an entire network.

Genasys ACOUSTICS extend public safety warnings with resilient, always on and remotely managed systems that broadcast hyper-local or wide area alerts and information in multiple languages. Solar powered, satellite-connected ACOUSTICS systems provide civil protection authorities with another critical capability to disseminate warnings, actionable emergency responses, and aid assistance notifications to people and populations in danger before, during, and after disasters and other critical events.
