We are excited to present the latest issue of the AWARE project newsletter. Through this newsletter, you will be informed about the latest developments, key events, and milestones of the AWARE project.

The AWARE Demonstrations

In October and November 2025, the AWARE project held two live demonstrations that showcased the operational capacity of the AWARE module equipped on fixed devices.

The two demonstrations, one in Slovenia and the other in France, put the AWARE solution to the test. Using realistic scenarios to simulate impending emergencies, both events demonstrated how the AWARE module can receive alerts transmitted by Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service satellites and quick broadcast clear warning messages to keep people safe.

The first AWARE demonstration took place on the 23rd of October, in Logarska Dolina, Slovenia, gathering representatives from the AWARE consortium, the national civil-protection authority, and civil-protection stakeholders from several EU Member States. The demonstration featured the AWARE module equipped into a long-range acoustic device (LRAD) provided by project partner GENASYS.

The demonstration scenario was inspired by the catastrophic floods that Slovenia experienced in 2023. The floods claimed the lives of several people and caused extensive damage to critical infrastructure and road networks. The demonstration simulated an impending natural hazard threatening the Logar valley, designed to showcase how the AWARE module can warn the affected population even when terrestrial telecommunication networks are disrupted.

During the demonstration, the module successfully received EWSS alerts broadcast via satellite, and then transmitted them to the device. The LRAD delivered a crystal-clear audio warning in English and Slovenian, showing how people can be alerted quickly and reliably when every second counts.

This first AWARE demonstration was a milestone event for the project, showcasing the operational capacity of the AWARE module. It is also an important point of reference for Galileo EWSS, as the service was integrated into fixed devices for the first time.

The second AWARE demonstration took place on the 4th of November in Plaisir, France. The AWARE consortium and relevant stakeholders gathered at the premises of project partner JCDecaux, where the AWARE module was equipped on the their digital urban furniture (digital panels).

The scenario simulated a severe thunderstorm in the city centre, leading to a hazardous-materials truck accident on a nearby highway, representing a realistic risk of urban accidents combined with weather-induced emergencies.

During the demonstration, the AWARE module successfully received genuine alerts broadcast via Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS). Upon reception, the digital within seconds displayed a detailed warning message to the public, giving people the necessary instructions to avoid danger.

This demonstration showed how AWARE can bring satellite-based alerts directly to busy city streets, adding another layer of security through quick and reliable public warning messages.

Together, the two demonstrations clearly showcased the added value of the AWARE solution. By going beyond smartphone-based alerts, and ensuring alert delivery even when telecommunications networks are disrupted, the AWARE provides a resilient, satellite-enabled innovation for public warning.

Whether integrated into sirens in remote areas or into digital panels in busy city environments, AWARE enables a truly multi-channel approach to public warning that maximises reach and ensures that critical messages can be delivered to as many affected people as possible.

These results mark an important step toward more robust and effective public warning capabilities across Europe.
