Take Part in the first AWARE demonstration
We are pleased to invite you to the first live demonstration of the AWARE project!
Join us to see the AWARE module in action and learn how it is strengthening public warning systems and helping to protect communities at risk of natural and man-made hazards.
Date: 23rd of October, 2025
Location: Hotel Plesnik, Logarska Dolina, Slovenia
The first AWARE demonstration in Slovenia will showcase the AWARE module integrated into a long-range acoustic device (LRAD/ACOUSTICS) provided by project partner GENASYS. Participants will experience how the system delivers crystal-clear warning messages issued by Galileo satellites directly to the affected population in a defined area.
Inspired by Slovenia’s devastating 2023 floods – the country’s worst natural disaster in decades – the demonstration scenario will simulate an impending natural hazard. It will highlight the operational capacity and effectiveness of the AWARE module in ensuring fast, reliable public alerts even when telecommunications networks fail.
The AWARE module will receive genuine Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service alerts broadcasted by satellites and transmit them to an equipped acoustic device. By providing audio messages, it ensures that timely, accurate information reaches citizens when it matters most, helping to reduce exposure to danger.
AWARE is one of the first projects to integrate Galileo EWSS to go beyond smartphone-based warning messages. In addition, a potential synergy between Copernicus Emergency Management Service and EWSS will be explored to highlight how integrated data can significantly improve situational awareness and response times during crises.

The involvement of CNES in AWARE as Galileo EWSS service center
As the future operator of the Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS) center, CNES plays a central role in the AWARE project. Leveraging its expertise in satellite-based emergency services, CNES supports the design of the AWARE module and service center, ensuring smooth integration with Galileo’s alerting capabilities. Through end-to-end testing and demonstrations, CNES helps validate the system’s ability to deliver timely alerts even when terrestrial networks fail, contributing to strengthening Europe’s resilience.

The AWARE project at the Security Research Event 2025
At the Security Research Event 2025 in Warsaw, AWARE showcased its innovative approach to strengthening public warning systems. Hosted at the EUSPA booth, the project highlighted how its module leverages Galileo’s Emergency Warning Satellite Service to deliver alerts beyond smartphones, through display panels, sirens, and indoor systems. By ensuring timely warnings even when telecom networks fail, AWARE exemplifies EU-based innovation that enhances civil security and public safety.

What’s next for AWARE?

Date: 4th of November 2025
Location: Plaisir, France
The second AWARE demonstration in Plaisir will showcase the AWARE module integrated into a digital panel (Digital Out-Of-Home panel) provided by project partner JCDecaux. Participants will experience how the system can broadcast warning messages directly in the street, when and where it is needed.
Densely-populated urban centres can become dangerous environments in an emergency. Without clear communication, panic can quickly turn into chaos during large-scale incidents.
The demonstration will simulate a severe thunderstorm over Paris that triggers a hazardous materials truck accident on a nearby highway. Equipped with the AWARE module, digital panels will be activated after receiving genuine Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service alerts broadcasted by satellites, warning citizens in the affected area to protect them from dangerous exposure.
The demonstration will highlight the operational capacity and effectiveness of the AWARE module in ensuring fast, reliable public alerts over multiple channels, adding another layer of security. By displaying warning messages on a large screen, it ensures that all citizens in an effected area can be alerted and protected from danger.
