Welcome to the first AWARE newsletter!
We are excited to present the first issue of the AWARE project newsletter. Through this newsletter, you will be informed about the latest developments, key events, and project milestones for the AWARE project.
The AWARE project
The AWARE project is developing a solution to enable the reception and processing of alert messages using the Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service (Galileo EWSS). Fixed devices, such as display panels, speakers, long-range acoustic devices (LRADs), indoor warning systems, and other connected devices, will be incorporated with this solution to alert citizens via audio, video, and text alert messages. Civil protection authorities could use this solution to enhance the reach of warning messages if there is no access to the telecommunications network.

What is the Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service?
The Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS) is a new service that will use Galileo, the European Union’s global satellite navigation system. It takes advantage of the Galileo infrastructure to offer a satellite channel to national civil protection authorities to send alerts to the population in the case of a looming disaster. The service is free and ensures that only the relevant population within the affected area is targeted using the geo-location information encoded within the warning message.
